WHAT DOES THE COURSE PROVIDE?

This Qualification provides you with the skills and knowledge required to work autonomously as a support worker in mental health, under the broad guidance of a supervisor. You will be trained to provide a range of interventions to clients with mental health issues and implement health promotion within the community services context.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH THIS QUALIFICATION?

On completion of the course you will be qualified to work as an Mental Health Outreach Worker, Community Support Worker, Indigenous Mental Health Worker and Mental Health Support Worker.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Certificate IV in Mental Health does not have mandatory requirements for entry. The expectation is that successful applicants will have an educational level that will enable the achievement of the objectives. Workers at this level are required to have an understanding of Indigenous culture and history and to work with local communities in the provision of services. This qualification is also available as an Australian Apprenticeship. (see below)

TRAINING DELIVERY AND ASSESSMENT

As part of the course assessment, you'll need to undertake supervised work placement for a total of 160 hours in a mental health-specific service delivery. This will help prepare you for professional mental health work in the community services industry. Your work placement will need to be pre-approved by deFaye College. You must also complete a Senior First Aid certificate in order to receive the Certificate IV in Mental Health.

STUDENT SUPPORT

Our students are our main priority and as such, we endeavor to support them in their studies. A variety of student support methods is offered, from ongoing one on one tutorial support as arranged between tutor and student, as well as evening support from 5.30pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday evenings. A tutor is available at these times to answer and assist with any questions the student may have.

QUALIFICATION

On completion of the course the student will receive a Certificate IV in Mental Health. Those who complete only part of the course will receive a Statement of Attainment for units completed.

AUSTRALIAN APPRENTICESHIP

This qualification is available as a funded Australian Apprenticeship for full and part-time new employees who qualify under the guidelines.
This qualification is also available as an Existing Employee Australian Apprenticeship for full and part-time employees. Commonwealth Government incentives may be available to employers. If you are eligible, a commercial fee not subject to the fees cap is applicable.
